#11  Church Cooperation

We believe that local churches can best promote the cause of Jesus Christ by cooperating with one another in a denominational organization.  Such an organization, whether it is the Conference or a district conference, exists and functions by the will of the churches.  Cooperation in a conference is voluntary and may be terminated at any time.  Churches may likewise cooperate with inter-denominational fellowships on a voluntary independent basis.

We believe that

local churches can best promote the cause of Jesus Christ by cooperating with  one another in a denominational organization.

Romans 16:3; Colossians 4:16  A local congregation may operate as an independent church, but there are a variety of activities that can be    enhanced by a number of like-minded churches banding together.

Such an organization, whether it is the Conference or a district conference, exists and functions by the will of the churches.

Acts 15:22-31, Philippians 4:14-19  Wisdom dictates that the local church both seek and accept the spiritual advice of believers outside the congregation.    Yet it is the local congregation that must finally decide on that advice.

Cooperation in a conference is voluntary and may be terminated at any time.

1 Corinthians 16:1-4; 2 Corinthians 8:6-8.  At any given time there are many worthwhile projects to be supported. The local church must prayerfully choose among them.

Churches may likewise cooperate with inter-denominational fellowships on a voluntary independent basis

3 John 1:5-8; 2 John 1:9-11  We should be aware of the needs of fellow believers in a variety of settings.  We should recognize as well that we have brothers and sisters in Christ attending churches in other denominations. So we do well to encourage one another as we are able.
