Point #6:   Regeneration

We believe that all men are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore under condemnation.  We believe that those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as personal Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.

We believe that

all men are sinners by nature and by choice

Romans 3:23   Everyone who has ever lived or will live rebels against God.    Although each person does not commit every sin, each person does sin, not measuring up to God’s standard for men.

and are, therefore under condemnation

John 3:18   Because of sin all men deserve to be condemned forever.  Belief or disbelief in Jesus is not the original cause of judgment (Rom. 1:18-23).

We believe that those who

repent of their sins

Acts 3:19,20   I must acknowledge the wrong I have done and agree with God that I have sinned.

and trust in Jesus Christ as personal Savior

Acts 16:31   There must be a total dependence on Jesus Christ that His death   on the cross paid for all my sins, that He has the power to change my life, and   that He is to be Lord over that changed life.  This belief must be a firm and   settled conviction, personally, and not based upon the works of another.

are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.

John 3:6-7,16  When a personal commitment is made to Jesus Christ there is immediate assurance of life, life presently and eternally.  If that commitment is sincere, eternal life cannot be lost, and God Himself undertakes to keep the Christian day by day.(1 John 5:12,13).

In light of this lesson and the previous ones, what is necessary?

1.  Belief in Jesus as the Son of God.  No mere man could die for my sins.

2.  Willingness to agree with God that I am in need of salvation.

3.  Personal belief in the sacrifice of Jesus.  He died for me.

4.  Willingness to submit my life to His Lordship.

And the result is?

1.  Forgiveness of sins.

2.  A heart determined to follow Christ.

3.  Assurance of eternal life.

4.  And all the benefits of the Holy Spirit.
