We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption.
One living and true God
Deuteronomy 6:4 There are not competing gods who have different goals, but one God who has specific characteristics and goals.
Eternally existing in three persons
2 Corinthians 13:14 The Son and the Holy Spirit are equal to the Father in that they have the same characteristics and goals, even though they are different in personality.
Equal in every divine perfection
Our church constitution does not explain in detail this truth. So here we note that the term “Son of God” (Matthew 3:17) implies having the same nature as the Father and thus fully God (Colossians 2). This point in the statement of faith also assumes that the Holy Spirit is fully God and is thus a person. The Holy Spirit is a “He” and not an “It”. (John 16:14; Acts 8:29; 15:28; Romans 8:16;1 Corinthians 12:11; Ephesians 4:30)
They execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
