The following series of Bible studies has two purposes. It explains basic Christian doctrines held by the church of Jesus Christ in many different denominations over many centuries. The goal is simply to encourage believers in Christ to learn the first “principles” or “foundation” of Christianity (Hebrews 6:1). But this course of study also explains the Statement of Faith of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Each lesson is taken from one of the points in that statement. Your participation in this class can be for basic Christian doctrine or for church membership.
As we study together, keep in mind that we are covering only the basics in Christianity. It would be easy to spend an entire quarter studying each of the topics. So our study will not necessarily answer all of your questions about any one point. The last lesson is directed primarily toward membership.
Hopefully, our class times will be relaxed and informal. If you have questions and comments as we go along, jump into the discussion. This is not designed as a lecture, so your additions are very welcome. We look up a lot of scripture and will wait for you if you have trouble finding a particular verse or book. We take turns reading, but you are welcome to decline to read. Hopefully you will find the class atmosphere gracious. Our Lord has been so gracious to us, and we would be gracious to one another.
